With its factory-like façade and rounded, vertical lettering spelling “B-A-U-H-A-U-S” – the Bauhaus Dessau building, designed and built by Walter Gropius in 1926, is the built manifestation of a revolution in design and education. In 2012, Germany publisher Spector Books began an extraordinary collaboration with the current Foundation Bauhaus Dessau to produce several new guide books on the rich history of the school. Designed by Berlin-based graphic designer Eike Konig, and available in English, volume 5 documents the history of the design and influence of the Bauhaus buildings. The pocket guides are printed in period black-and-white on a satisfying pulpy paper stock and accompanyies an exhibition on the same topic at the Foundation center. A must-have for all Bauhaus aficionados.
